The principal investigator of this project is Rui Wang, a student at the University of Leicester Department Media and Communication. I am studying Media and Public Relations. In cooperation with my supervisor Maria Touri, a lecturer at the University of Leicester Department Media and Communication, I am collecting data from college students recruited from a large university in South-western China aiming to compare the difference between the response of public to crisis response via different media channel. The data will only be used in this study. The research involves experiment and completing a questionnaire to examining the public response to crisis communication via different media types. The survey will only take no more than 10 minutes to fill. Your participation in the project/survey is entirely voluntary and you are free to withdraw from the project at any point. If you are uncertain or uncomfortable about any aspect of your participation please contact the Principal Investigators listed at the top of this letter to discuss your concerns or request clarification on any aspect of the study. A fictional crisis news and responses were used to achieve the examination. As in the second part of this questionnaire, a fictional news brief that reported the flight MU5156 of China Eastern Airline crashed while landing was showed to you, and in the next part, one of the three different possible responses (A, B, C) of the China Eastern Airline company to this fictional crisis are randomly chosen and presented to you. Then you are asked to give your opinions towards the fictional response from China Eastern Airline company after the fictional air crash. The purpose of it is to stimulate the process of crisis extending, communication so that to get your first time reaction and perception when a crisis happened. Please note the air crash has never existed. The plane crash news mentioned in the survey, including the details such as the air company, the date and the number of victims, as well as the information of the responses you were provided are totally fictitious.
